One test for a good multimeter is to have it measure voltage changes and
see how fast the synthesizer reacts to changes in the visual display.
One problem with the old talking multimeters was the display and
synthesizer combination weren't quick enough to read changes in circuit
characteristics. Will it measure in tenths of volts because in some IC
timing circuits knowing those figgures are crucial for the operation of
the circuit. If you're just measuring for continuity, a good audicator
will do the trick. That would be good for checking for frayed wiring on
christmas lights.
