In order to enhance the communication capabilities of my
Unisys (IBM compatible) workstation, I am wondering if
anyone out there has succeeded in using either PROCOMM
or KERMIT to talk to (ASCII) TTY/TDD users.
Several questions come into mind:
1. In PROCOMM, there is a CHAT MODE which splits
the screen in two (unequal) halves. Can this be
used?
2. What are the necessary parameters to set for
my HAYES (RACAL VIDAC V1223) modem? Also what
are the parameters to set for the number to be
dialled?
3. Can KERMIT also be used? It is evident, not
from experience but I intend to do so, that both
PROCOMM and KERMIT can be used to talk to another
PC.
4. What are the necessary steps for a TTY/TDD user
to call my PC?
Any references to publications etc would also be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks a lot

Index Number: 12448 In my working with TDDs and PC I have figured out the following. Most good TDDs support an ASCII mode (7 bit, mark or space parity, 1 stop) that about half of the PC based communications packages will talk to. It is easiest if the TDD dials into the PC and not vise versa. It just seems to work better. As to the file transfer, the only way to get KERMIT to run is to have it on both units and I have yet to hear of any uploadable software for a TDD. Therefore, good luck....
