[Note from Bill McGarry: See the following article for an
 answer to this article]

Has anyone out there heard of a program for PC-clones which makes
the system use a larger than normal font on the screen but scrolls
in both directions to provide a normal-sized screen (in rows &
columns) as far as applications can tell?

(A friend of mine wants to get this for her father but does not
know where to start looking. I've used products like this on the
Mac, but don't know about the PC.)

(Sorry, I do not have hardware configuration details available to
me at the moment. I will post a summary of anything useful mailed
to me.)

Here is a list of the various text enlargers/magnifiers that
I have available on my BBS. Some of these are available on
SIMTEL20 as well. BBS phone number is 1-203-337-1607
(300/1200/2400 baud).

You should also check with the IBM National Support Center for
Persons with Disabilities. Their address is:

IBM National Support Center for Persons with Disabilities
        P. O. Box 2150
        Atlanta, GA 30055
        (800) 426-2133
        (800) 284-9482 (TDD)
        (404) 238-4806

Anyway, here is the list:
The following set of programs were all written
by Bill Arendt of Hexagon Products. The files that
are in ".EXE" format are self-extracting archive files.

BDIR, BEDIT, BLOOK and BTYPE will all display
from 10 to 60 characters per line

BDIR2.EXE 21828 DIR type command in large characters
BEDIT11.ZIP 61731 Large character editor
BLOOK2.EXE 26288 Look at ascii files
BTYPE2.EXE 22528 DOS TYPE command in large characters

BPOP (also by Bill Arendt) is a TSR (Terminate
and Stay Resident program) that acts as a software
magnifying glass. When needed, BPOP will pop up
and enlarge any text that is being displayed.
There are 4 different versions of BPOP. They vary
by the number of different sizes that can be displayed
and the amount of memory that is needed. Documentation
 is in BPOPDC.EXE

BPOPA.EXE 18560 "Magnifying glass" - 10 chars per line
BPOPB.EXE 20480 10, 26 or 52 characters per line
BPOPC.EXE 21632 10, 20 or 40 characters per line
BPOPD.EXE 23680 10, 20, 26, 40 or 52 characters per line
