[This is from the Blink Talk Conference]

Monday, December 17 has a7{ new reason to go down in history
besides the anniversary of the Wright Brothers flight at Kitty Hawk. I
learned today that Rami Rabby, after more than a year of negotiations,
will be starting a job at the State Department next Monday. Although
the State Department has hired some blind people to work in support
roles in Washington, or to be in the Peace Corps in blindness-related
work, they had flatly refused on medical grounds to accept any blind
person into the Foreign Service Officer program, even though other
countries have had blind people in these positions for many years. I
don't know any of the details of Rami's new job, other than that he is
starting with several months in a training program, but expect he got
more or less what he asked for. This is another reason why we have to
have the National Federation of the Blind.
As I learn more I'll pass it along.
