"Travel Tales - A Mobility Storybook," by Julia
Halpern-Gold, Robin Weinstock Adler and Shelly Faust-Jones,
is a storybook that centers around the adventures of Elliot,
a little boy who is visually impaired. Each of the 17
chapters teaches or reinforces a mobility skill or
environmental concept. It is designed to be read to
preschool through third grade children with visual
impairments. At the discretion of the teacher or parent,
some older children and children with multiple
disabilities will also enjoy the stories and activities.
Each chapter contains six parts: New Words to Learn
and Use, A Short Story, Listen and Learn (discussion topics
and activities), Games for Reinforcement, Sing-A-Long and
Worksheets.
"Travel Tales" was written by three mobility instructors,
two of whom work for intermediate units within Central
Pennsylvania. The authors hope this book will help fill a
strong need in the field for materials that explain mobility
in a simple and enjoyable way.
To order, send $20 plus $2 for postage for each book to
Mostly Mobility, R.D. 1, Box 1448-A, Bethel, PA 19507.
