The American Foundation for the Blind's national database
for users of adaptive equipment for blind and visually
impaired people passed a milestone on January 11, 1988,
when the 1,000th resource person was interviewed.
The User Network is part of a larger database
compiled by the American Foundation for the Blind's
National Technology Center (NTC). It provides blind and
visually impaired consumers, professionals in the
blindness field, employers, and researchers with
information on assistive devices. The NTC was established
to help blind and visually impaired people participate
fully in the computer age by undertaking high technology
research and development, evaluation and database
services.
To generate information for the User Network, NTC
staff conduct personal interviews with people who use
computer products, reading aids, talking products or
electronic mobility aids, or who train people in the
use of these devices.
For more information about the User Network,
contact Elliot Schreier, Director, National Technology
Center, American Foundation for the Blind, 15 W. 16th
St., New York, NY 10011, (212) 620-2080.
