After you have the board, the software is no more than any other as far as
price goes. As for the demos, the only people that can run it are the ones
with the artic boards and most of the people that have artic boards 210/215
packages no the capabilities.

Walter!!!

My friend, how can a company put out demos of their software.
After all you need their dedicated speech board to even run the
software. And, even if you happen to be a registered Artic user
with one of the original Sonix 200 or 220 boards it will cost you
$270 to upgrade to the new Business Visions plus giving up that
synthesisor that can be used with more speech software packages
than just Artic's software. Their philosophy seems to be a
philosophy that you either commit yourself to using their software
exclusively for the next several years or you use some other
software and synthesisor. And, they want you to buy without the
opportunity to try it out and see if it is really going to meet
your needs.

For myself, I can't accept any speech package today that locks
themselves into their synthesisor and excludes the use of other
speech products without additional expense or just doesn't allow it
at all. You will note that the Soundingboard and Vocal-eyes are
not linked in such a way that you can't use other software on the
Soundingboard. But, a greedy Artic Tech is more interested in
getting your money and not so interested in helping the user. I
sincerely that the new speech product out of Kentuckey changes
their mind about being tied to only one synthesisor too or I am
afraid there are a lot of blinks and a lot of agencies for the
blind that are just going to refuse to pop for the price of another
speech software and hardware when they can get a good software for
an existing synthesisor much cheaper.

DL> wheather it be the 200 board 210/215.

Doug,
No offense intended, but could you give me an example of who else
does this?
Yes, I am sure there are examples outside of this adaptive
equipment game, although none really comes to mind right now, but who
else locks their software to a particular piece of hardware in this
game? Heck, even Screen Reader supports other synthesizers!

I would love to give the new Business Visions a look, but I am one
of those poor unfortunates without n Artic board! Now you tell
me...Whose loss is it, theirs or mine?
Remember, it wasn't too long ago that Artic didn't allow any other
speech program to run on their boards, but now by paying them a little
extra money they'll enable you to do it!

Hello Walter:
Notice your comments on Artic Vision 3.0.
With Vertion 2.10, Artic offered there product also to run with the Dec
Talk.
I am an Artic vision user. Am obtaining vertion 3.0.
Have not heard yet heard from the area vender of Artic what will be selling
for for those who are purchase for a first time.
It hard to decide if a dedicated software and hardware would be better
than working with any and all synthesizers.
Please note, IBM's Screen Reader can only be used with those systems
that support there external keypad. Screen Reader can support almost any
Synthesizer. The key pay will work on only IBM's PS2, PS1, EPSON EQUITY 1E
AND 2E with out their interface card. And if you do not obtain the interface
card at the time you purchase Screen Reader, your out of luck. Those systems
I listed above have the special IBM 6 pin Key board/ Mouce connecter.
Something to think about.
