My online class, Disability and Technology, is being
offered again as an adult education class through
Connected Education from January 7 1991 through February 6,
1991. This class is completely online and done through
personal computer and modem. The class is concerned
with the emerging technologies and policies concerning
them for and by disABLED persons. Now entering its third
semester, this class has had students from Canada, Oklahoma,
West Virginia, California, and NYC (point of origin).
All of these people took my course without leaving their
homes or places of business. And students from as far away
as Japan and Australia will be joining us for future seminars.
Issues of hardware, software, law, access, policy and
planning, and attitudes about disability are presented
in this 4 week adult ed class.

I teach a class which explains the use of tech by different
disabilities. There is a 12 meg database on the subject which I have
also which is extensive and deep. There are some nice options. Adult ed
is 4 weeks and only a paper is due. In masters (transferable credits)
there is a midterm final and paper due as well as required statments
weekly of at least 50 lines.

I have also had each stuent do a project. One did a paper on phonemic
code and how a voice box works. One education major wriote how
computers are used in education. One organization psych major explained
how this tech can be used in the workplace. One special ed major wanted
to explain how the different disabilities use tech to learn. he is now
setting up a small lab for jr High students in Canada. Another made a
tactile graphic screen moniter.. he was my PhD student! So the project
is the most creative part of the class. It is totally individual.

Dr Levinson is a genius at having formulated this in 1985. It is a
strong marvelous way to learn and to teach. I hope it intrigues you
enough to look into it. Imagine.. you are in Michigan and can take a
class in NYC without leaving your home! How nice! I think this kind of
educaton has a grand future.
