Index Number: 13120 [This is from the Blink Talk Conference] hi roy. if a group considers a mode of communication to be it's choice, that's their problem. many find that dictating the code portion of the amateur radio test is better than slowing down to a brailler. as examiners for the novice license, my wife and i have successfully passed 6 blind novices who all upgraded. we advise them all to practice with the brailler but don't be surprised in the general 13wpm if they have to dictate their answers. as for alternatives to the brailler or writting or speaking or signing, the only other alternative would be mind reading!! oh well, we both made our points. the f.c.c. instead of confronting their definition of disability turned tail and avoided possible law suits by not defining what the term "disabled" means. i honestly have no problem with no code for those above 6 meters but where cw is all prevasive on hf, i have to wonder. i also wonder how one will tell the communicator from the novice on ten meter phone when there is no call sign deliniation... dan, out of sight, out of my mind! -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!203!999!Dan.Kysor Internet: Dan.Kysor@f999.n203.z1.fidonet.org
