Entering, the last day of the STS-4 countdown, every is still going smoothly. Countdown officials plan to have a last big hold today, starting at 1545 EDT and ending at 0025 EDT tomorrow morning. At that time, workers will begin to fill the external tank with liquids hydrogen and oxygen. Meanwhile, today, Ken Mattingly and Henry Hartsfield will make practice landings in jets modified to act like the shuttle, and later they will visit the launch pad. During the flight, Columbia's front, back, and top will again be subject to direct and lack of sunlight in more duration tests, and the mechanical arm will lift a big contamination monitor over the payload bay, carry it around, and put it back.
