Hi, Ann!

Yes, I know about the AT&T tollfree directory; however, since it isn't
on audio cassette or in braille, it doesn't help me much. I get the
feeling sometimes that when one group is accommodated someone is left
out. I really don't see why this book couldn't be made accessible
via modem or computer disk. Why couldn't the telephone users be able
to contaDirectory Assistance and obtain phone numbers using their modems?

The book may have been free once, but it isn't now. I don't recall
the cost but have heard their advertisement whenever I've called and
requested a phone number. After the recording gives the phone number
there is a second recording you'll hear, if you don't hang up soon
enough, advertising the availability of the directory and how to obtain
one and the cost. Well, maybe some day we will all have equal access
to everything! Until then we share our info and help each other when
we can.
Take care,
Linda

Linda, the AT&T Toll-Free Directory is still free, but I think
you have to be lucky. For some reason I was sent the 1991 Consumer
Edition with a message on the front that says "A Special Gift For A
Special Customer". A letter that came with it said that free copies
were sent to "selected" customers - probably just a random list of
folks they hope will pay for future editions! <grin>
Anyway, the cost is $9.95 for the Consumer Directory and $14.95

for the Business Directory, plus postage, handling and tax. You can
get a copy at an AT&T Phone Center, or call their voice number at
1-800-426-8686, Ext. 222. As you probably already know, the TDD number
for AT&T is 1-800-855-1155. Hope this helps!
     Bill

Hi, Bill and thanks for jumping in on this thread. You've been too
quiet lately. (smiles)

I'd like to mention that the AT&T Toll-Free 800 directories are sent
randomly and they are free. I just called to find out. Also, the
1-800-855-1155 number is the AT&T TDD Operator number and the best
number to call to request this directory is the Special Needs Center,
1-800-233-1222 (Voice) or 1-800-833-3232.

Boy - I've got numbers galore around here, so think I better get
some sort of listing compiled. Ain't it funny how you find things
you didn't know you had when you start cleaning out for a move???
(sheepish grin)
