I've been very pleased with the closed captioning on the 3
major networks during the operation of Desert Storm over in
the Persian Gulf these past few days, especially the first
48 hours or so. You've got to admit it's been quite a job
for all concerned to make sure we get the full benefit of
what is happening.

But - CNN has yet to caption any of their news and since Bernard
Shaw was the one to report the action over in the Persian Gulf
(now called Arabian Gulf) first and CNN was connected live from
Iraq far longer than ABC, NBC and CBS, I feel it's time for us
to push and prod Ted Turner into adding closed captioning to his
24 hour Cable News Network.

As of now, I don't have an address of CNN's headquarters but
would like to request that we all bombard CNN and Ted Turner
with letters requesting he provide this service for us. Anyone
have any suggestions or perhaps an address of CNN???

While I have a feeling of sadness and fear about the whole Middle
East situation, I'm so DAMN proud of our troops. I hope we shall
resolve the conflict quickly and see peace soon. I have many
friends (some are SysOps in FidoNet - two from my net) over there,
I wish for all to return safely.

Hi Ann,

Regarding your recent posting you said...

Have to agree with you there, however it seems that ABC kept the
captioning going on through the night where NBC and CBS had stopped
when I checked in again at 5:45 AM EST on Thursday morning. Perhaps
there wasn't enough operators left by that time of day...

The address for CNN is... CNN
                                CNN Center
                                Atlanta, GA 30348

Yes, let's all start something here..... And while we're at it
why not write a letter of appreciation to ABC, NBC, and CBS thanking
them for using captioning as much as they have.

BTW the addresses are...

ABC NBC CBS
77 W. 66th St. 30 Rockfeller Plaza 51 W. 52nd St.
N.Y., NY 10023 N.Y., NY 10112 N.Y., NY 10019

If and when you get a response from CNN, please share the letter
with everyone here. Okay?

Maybe you should write to Israel TV in Tel Aviv - I noticed today that
when the TV came on during the missile raid, they reannounced
instructions for putting on gas masks. They announced them in Hebrew,
Arabic, Russian and English, but there was also a signer in the corner
of the screen.
