Index Number: 13463 [This is from the Blink Talk Conference] QEDIT seems to be an editor quite popular with speech users and others who use computers. How does it work with speech, and what is the latest version? Where may I obtain a copy? Thanks in advance. How does it work with speech, and LI> what is the latest version? Where may I obtain a copy? Linda, I believe that Qedit is a very popular text editor for several reasons, some of these being it is small, highly configurable, can use the basic Word Star commands that many programmers and others are familiar with, and which most text editors seem to use, and the support is excellent! It can be easily installed as the text editor for Silver Xpress, and it has a menu system in addition to the hot key commands. The most recent version I have here is QEDIT210.ZIP, but I have heard that a more recent update is due for release. I honestly seldom use Word Perfect or any other profound word processor anymore, as Qedit does about 99% of any text writing I need to due quite adequately, and for sure, if you do any sort of batch file writing or modifying, something you should be very familiar with if you run a point, it is the only way to go! So far as how friendly it is with speech, this depends on what speech program you are using, the particular setup of your computer, such as the type of graphics card, and your own knowledge of both Qedit and your speech program. In general, however, it writes direct to the screen, the prompts are, on my system, usually read by either the current cursor line key or the previous line hot key, and seriously, in little time at all, I think it can be learned to the degree where the need to read the prompts is very rare. Try it Linda, you'll like it! Willie ... It uses many of the same commands as Wordstar. It seems to work well with speech, especially if you know wordstar. I use it for a lot of things where I need to have the file in ascii. If you want to find a copy, a bbs in your area should have it. The version I have is 2.08, look for that one or a later one if it's available. Later.. Chris It can be fixed.
