SG> hi attention all units!!!!!! I am thinking about getting a
SG> braille printer some time in the future. I would have to aply
SG> for a grant for one as I am not able to aford one myself. I
SG> would only need one that would print both braille and print I
SG> don't have room for two printers. I am checking out the brother
SG> printer. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know
 SG> thanks

Steve,
The only other printer I know of that prints in both print and braille is called
the Otsuki. Not sure of the spelling. It can print in braille and dot-matrix
print at the same time. The company was located in Walnut Creek, California for
a while, if memory serves me correctly, but not sure if they are still there.
It is used a lot by schools, because children have the need to produce braille,
and print that sighted teachers can use. Maybe someone else knows more about
it. If you can't find out anything else, let me know and I will dig around a
bit. I believe that it is in the three thousand dollar range, but could be
wrong about this.

SB> Has anyone heard how Blazie Engineering is coming along with the
SB> production of their Braille Blazer? A friend ordered one while
SB> attending the ACB convention and still has not heard anything.

They told me if I were to order then, that it would be September before I could get it. Since September has just started, I would say maybe any time now. Knowing the way those things seem to go, he probably will have a little wait. Those things never run according to schedule.

               Walter

i use a good old versapoint 40. it's the only printer in its
price ranhe range that doesn't waste a sheet of paper every time
you use it!! plus i reuse paper if i can. you might wanna
consider a used one if you cannot afford a new one. sometimes
they sell year old ones for around $2495 or $2795 depending on
age. you get a year's warrantry still! can you beat it? we own
t3o of these little monsteps. is that satisfactory? remember, we
have something extra special in massachusetts.
