Index Number: 13590 [Note from Bill Mcgarry: See the next article] We have a portable machine for print enlargement called a ViewScan. We got it from Sensory Aids Corp. They are listed with this address: 205 West Grand Ave., Suite 205, Bensenville, IL 60106 (phone: 708-766-3935). They are not listed at the number, nor are they listed on area code 708 information. Does anyone know of the ViewScan device. Students here like the one we have -- except they prefer a display with better contrast. Lastly, if you don't know of this device, maybe you know of another on which could do the same thing. The ViewScan is a portable text enlarging device. It has a small hand-held camera which you roll over the text you are reading (reminds me of the Opticon camera but not as fancy or large as the Kurzweil's hand scanner). The unit is rechargeable. It weighs about 10 to 15 pounds. It displays text in different magnifications -- the screen can display only a few words at a time with that amount adjusted to the size of magnification. The text appears in red and black, mattering on your selection of neg/pos display. The company, since we purchased the ViewScan, modified it with an Epson HX-20. This raised the price considerably. Our students desire a unit to help them read text that is more portable the a visualtek or other device with a large monitor. Any ideas???
