Hi Ruthie. I appreciate your resonse. My chiro. did insist on a
CAT scan. He also took numerous x-rays. I've recently had a relapse of
pain, first time in months. Probably due to muscle spasms. As I
understand it, the spinal nerves can become confused and keep certain
muscles contracted more than they should be, leading to pain. I guess
this is why MD's prescribe Parafon Forte to relax the muscles. I got some
ultrasound and muscle-stim treatment and am gradually feeling better.
The keyword to remember about chiro.'s is "Cox". There are different
schools for chiros, and apparently the "cox" guys really know their
stuff. A lot of poeple don't know it but a chiro has to have a bachelor's
degree, then 4 years of chiropractic school, so these guys do pack some
educational wallop.......I've been trying to convince my anatomy teacher
of this.
I don't believe chiros are -always- the answer. A person with a
spinal injury should check with his/her MD first, then see a chiro and
decide on a course of action, but the SOONER THE BETTER.
I hope you get better soon Ruthie. I can sure feel what your going
through. Good luck on the 5th! Jim

Lately the muscle spasms have decreased, but the Parafon Forte never
did a darn thing for them....5mg of valium helped enormously tho. The
Dr. mentioned PT if the MRI showed nothing new...we shall see when I
go in next week.

What does the "Cox" mean exactly? Why is it that that makes a
difference??

Thanks for your reply! I am feeling a bit better after being on
Naprosyn for a week now, but it has some wierd side effects and I'm
not sure that I like that, or that they are good for me in the long run.
Glad to hear that your treatments have helped you...I'm hoping that in
the worst case scenario all I need is some PT or such to help things
along. Tomorrow is the MRI...yuk!
   CU, Ruthie

Hi Chris, yes I would be intrested in news from Canada. Right now
my audience covers the mid and eastern section of Ohio. We are working
on expanding and I am trading a few tapes with a guy from San Francisco.
So soon I will have a few show out there. I do a lot of tape media and
remote shoots. I love it when someone has footage. I can use VHS or 3"
I do run several Public Service announcements and the station also uses
them on other programming. I'm running an hour special next month on a
terrfic girl. Her name was Stacey Connors. Bill Baughm set up a copy of
her video for me and it is a fantastic story of determination,
creativity, and joy of life. Everyone at the station was so moved by
Stacy that we are going to run it as a special movie presentation, this
way I don't have to edit any of it to make it fit into my scheduled time
slots. If you have a tape or have a story you want to follow and can get
footage I would be glad to look at it and run it.

Hello, Pandora...For a long time after I stopped walking, I would often
dream that I WAS indeed walking, and the part of me that was observing
the dreamy goings-on was delighted at the thought that the non-walking
was just a dream and that when I awoke I would be walking. I realized
after reading your new post that I don't dream about walking anymore; on
the other hand, I don't ever see the wheelchair nor me in it in dreams.
Based on what you experienced, I guess the first time I do see my
wheelchair in a dream I will know that the totality of me has finally,
finally, accepted the situation. Thanks for leading me to this personal
observation. Best,
      Harry

Hi Carla, don't feel to silly if you will recall when you had better
visio that then you would also generate pictures of people. We are a
very visual orientated animal. When we talk to people on the phone and
such we all build images off what ey look like. I have tried to stop
this habit because usually I'ay off base on what they really look like.
You sure get some suprises when you finally see them if you have built
and image. So you liked the Rubbermaid blue, great color, of all things
to retain a vivid color memory of that's pretty intresting. There have
been a few people (sighted) that have maintained that when blindfolded
that they could tell the color of objects handed them just by touch.
Most of theses people were part of Russian"experiments" in ESP. I told
don't hold these reports to be very accurate or even true.
One thing that you might find intresting is that most people do not
dream in color. You are one of the lucky few. I can't remember the
percentageff hand but it is somewhere like only a 1/4 dream in col When
you talk about being off in perception of your friends don't feel to
bad. Everytime I've changed wheelchairs I have to go through a
readjustment on determining other peoples heights. My manual was higher
than my tricart seat and so now people are seeming much taller to me
again. It took me awhile to be able to somewhat accurately judge peoples
heights when I first started using a chair. I mean every one seemed to
be giants. I eventually adapted to that height difference for a referenc
and then changed chairs. It is really funny how we can be so thrown of
in perception by perspective. Of course being in a wheelchair has
changed my visual perception alot, now I see alot of peoples buns
instead of faces. Ray took me to a truck salvage store, the place was a
mad house. They had junk and people all over the place. His intructions
to me were if I saw something I liked to grab it. While I knew that he
meant that if there was something I wanted to buy you had to take it
when you see it or it won't be there for long. The imp in me kept
thinking as basically all I could see were guys buns, that if I saw some
I liked I should grab him and just tell him my husband told me to.
