Index Number: 13271 Hello. I'm currently working on a rather large paper that details how disabled individuals have coped with their disabilities. Since I needed a large sampling of input, I decided to post this on here. Answer the following queries that apply to you, or anyone you may know. Email said answers to the portal address on the header, and thanks in advance for your input. Blind individuals - 1> How much of your other senses do you use to operate in an environment? Eg, smell, and tactile clues. 2> What 'workarounds' do you use in an indoor environ, outdoor, and/or unfamiliar environ? 3> What, if anything, effects your sense of balance in the above environs? 4> Finally, whether you use a white cane or not, how well can you get around in an area that you are semi-familiar with? Deaf individuals - 1> How well can you carry on a conversation with a non-deaf person? 2> What type of hindrances do you (or have you) overcome to talk to individuals unfamiliar with sign-language? 3> Finally, how much of your environment can you sense through tactile clues (eg, roar of a jet, loud radio, etc)? Mobility-impaired individuals - 1> How are you impaired? 2> What types of terrain give you problems, mobility-wise? Eg, tall grass, sand, rocky ground, etc. 3> What 'workarounds' have you found most successful when confronting obstacles (be it terrain, the handling of items, etc) ? 4> Finally, what problems have you had to overcome when interacting with so-called 'non-disabled' individuals? Again, I thank all who reply to this posting. Ken Durham (visual/mobility impaired) usenet address - Panama@cup.portal.com

Index Number: 13668 I was wondering if you had ever received any response to your inquiries, and if you did, what they told you. I would be curious as to the results as I am a paraplegic. I am sorry I didn't answer your questions. I saved the mail and then forgot about it. I hope you got the answers you needed to complete your paper. |From: Panam@cup.portal.com (Ken Durham) |Message-ID: <17284@bunker.UUCP> | |Index Number: 13271 | |Hello. | I'm currently working on a rather large paper that details |how disabled individuals have coped with their disabilities. |Since I needed a large sampling of input, I decided to post this on |here.
