        I 'm not sure but I don't think that baudot is a
problem for the modem, but the software running on the PC
would have to be able to convert between baudot and ascii.
I have a version of PC-TALK III that has been modified by an
Amateur Radio Operator, so that it can be used for RTTY
(Radio TTY ) which uses baudot. It was on a disk of Ham
Radio programs distributed by Software on the Go or
something like that (A Shareware distributer).

Even if you get both ends talking in buadot, most TTY that
use baudot are 110 baud (I think) and not all modems can use
110 baud and even if the modem can, the other end will have
to know ahead of time she is using 110 cause at 300 or less
the connect message is just CONNECT.

Don't know if I've been much help.
Maybe I can make some kind of arrangements to get
the modified PC TALK to you as I don't know how widely
available it is. Another thing is it is in BASIC and it has
to stop to clear it's dynamic string space or something
every so often and that takes a minute or 2 unless you
compile it.
                                        Rick

 > Yes; it's a common question. There are programs available.
 > But why not just spring for a TDD yourself?
Chick is a newcomer to SilentTalk, so why the sarcasm???

I'm all for helping others get involved with computers and I believe
this is a far superior way to communicate than a TDD is, but, there
are some who cannot afford either. I think in time TDD's will be
obsolete since high technology seems to be taking over with so
many neat gadgets/gizamos in making so much possible for all of
us.

If TDD machines use TTY there are plenty of communication
programs and some boards that offer you a choice of emulations,
such as ANSI, ASCII, IBM ANSI, TTY, etc. I'm using JrComm
right now for the Amiga and it has every possible emulation
available, it seems to me someone just needs to show more
interest and solve this problem with TDD machines.. They
need to make it with a few more lines in my view even thouhg
I'm hearing impaired, so you can read more before it scrolls
off the screen from us FAST typers! :)

I agree.. TDD is obsolete, not to mention a BIG pain in the rear..
I perfer the usage of computers any day before I would touch my TDD..
TDD's are way too restricted. I don't like using it not one bit.
But I have to accept what others use.. I only hope that TDD's will
finally be too obsolete for anyone to use it.
Computers are much more practial.
I can't wait for the day Laptop computers are finally affordable, and
also a cellaur modem to go with it.. THAT is the top in the line
communcation device for the deaf!

Have you ever thought about using a cellular phone with a computer
in your car? I can just envision all of us being stopped by the
cops and trying to explain all of this! (grin)

I've communicated with several via the relay operator to the
receiving parties' cellular phone. Needless to say, my first
experience was quite interesting and I think a shocker to the
other party.

Now, if we could figure out a way to call some of the data lines
(infolines) that are provided by certain cities without getting
the relay operators all hot n' bothered trying to keep up
with the recordings and transmit them to us in the speed they
hear them. Believe me - this could be very interesting but
I don't think it's worth putting our operators through that.
