Public officials, politicians, and doctors have this quality in
common...(comp comp, that is).
I'm surprised full disclosure is an issue in the United States. Here in
Canada we like doctors to talk turkey. Perhaps it is because we
concsider ourselves adults who should be in control of our lives, not
children, who are to be "looked after". However, I'm sure that a lot of
doctors try to maintain control and preserve their shaman status by being
paternalistic.
After all, medicine is the only "science" that says "I don't know what
I'm doing, therefore I know what I'm doing" which is what doctors are
doing when they tell patients, when they can't figure out what's wrong
with them, that their problems are all in their heads.
