Index Number: 14524 [This is from the Silent Talk Conference] Hey Ralph, I can't recall if I explained this before or not. Eugene Hairston was a deaf boxer. At one time he was the number two welter weight ( I think) or light heavyweight behind Sugar Ray Robinson. Yep all the others were deaf people who contributed to society but we deafies never get to be told that they were even deaf. Konstantin espoused ideas in math, rocketry and flight that was so advanced that only in recent modern times has science been able to apply the concepts. There are many deafies who contributed to many areas, but no effort is made to give deaf children the dignity of pride in knowing this. Especially in maninstreamed programs. Interestingly, schools for thedeaf like ASDB, were founded by deaf people, yet have no mention of the fact anywhere on the entire campus. It just shows how the wrong type of hearies don't want us to hold our head high despite lip service to the contrary. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!300!14!James.Womack Internet: James.Womack@f14.n300.z1.fidonet.org
