The crew for the seven-day flight of STS-9, now scheduled to launch on 30 September, 1983, was announced today by NASA. The commander will be John Young, making his second shuttle flight; pilot will be Brewster Shaw; mission specialists will be Owen Garriott and Robert Parker. Also among the crew will be an American scientist Byron K. Lichtenberg and West German scientist Ulf Merbold; they will operate Space Lab 1, also due to fly with STS-9. It will be the first time that a foreigner has flown on an American spacecraft.
