I am wondering if those of you who are blind and have an Arkenstone
have found it difficult to scan your own material. I have heard
that basically the TSI product is the same as the Arkenstone, but
a little more expensive. Thanks.

Take care,

Linda

Linda I have owned an arkenstone since july 90 and it is not perfect no
scanner even for the sighted is perfect. it is my firm conviction after
talking to some professional ocr people that we are lucky enough to have
the best there is on the market. there are variables that no system
accept the human brain can control and even thouse are marginal. the
new software will cure many of our frustrations but no release is
perfect. everything is relitive if you use an opticon it isn't perfect
either you have to have a base to work from. I was down on the
arkenstone for a while but I took the time and effort to contact experts
in the field and not just blind users or producers and my perspective
has change. I hope walters will change a little when he hears the tapes
I sent him. by nature I am not a quiter and I have new determination to
stay with the system and work with it not against it or moan and groan
abouts its short comings that are more the fault of winks and not the
equipment.

When I saw the Scanjet scanner the question popped up in my mind as to
what would you do do if you had a document several pages deep. With
the KPR that isn't a problem because the lines around the scanning
window allow for a lot of paper. However the lines on the Scanjet
arehard to define with no paper on the window much les with a stack of
sheets in there. I guess I'd feed them one at a time.

I think that the company Arkanstone is a unique entity in the approach
they have used to promote reading equipment for the blind and visually
empaired. They should be congradulated for their efforts and
commended. I couldn't believe it when I read that sent out new
software to their users free of charge! That just blew my mind. Grant
