Al,
Let me see, you sure pack a lot into your messages!
Well, first of all my brother-in-l{aw is a Mac software developer, and so
we spent a lot of time discussing the portt of Ami-Talk to the Mac.
The two systems are remarkabley similar (perhaps Commodore based a lot of
the Amig upon the Mac) with an almost one-for-one correspondence between
vbarious featuresw int the opeqrating system. The Amiga is slightly more
complex because of its multi-tasking, but that also makes running a
background task such as a screen rea{ding {package a little easier, so it
probably evens out. I can't say about Windows or OS/2, perhaps they both
are much more complicated than either the Mac or the Amiga.
Your right in that the Amiga is not very mainstream, and I'm not
really trying to make a case here for a blind person to buy one instead
of an Intel system. In fact, I get at least a call a month from a blind
person not yet owning a computer, and interested in purchasing the Am9iga
because of its built-in speech. I usually try to find out what they want
with a computer, and usually end up advising them to get an Intel system.
I honestly think the Amiga is uperior in both hardware and operating
system to the Intel systems, but people usually need compatability with
either friends or co-workers, and that's more important.
Yes, I am still upgrading the Ami-Talk system, and if you'll send me
Robert Lumly's address, I'll send a demo of version 3.0 when it starts
shipping.
If I remember right about the LED 120, the keyboard did transmit both
upper and lower case (p0erhaps there was an internal switch to control
this) but {gave no indication when printing of upper case. I had my
brailling mechanism re-built when I did the upgrade and have had a great
deal of trouble with it, so can't reccommend putting any more money into
your LED. I wish now that perhaps I had spent the money on a Romeo or
something like it.
Oh yes, one of my Ami-Talk customers has used Ami-Talk{_ with the
IBM bridgeboard, and says it works fine. Sinceyou must use the Amnigas
windowing GUI to get to the bridge board however, this is still somewhat
more trouble than using an intel system directly.
Hope I covered it all Al, and you're right about the weather, it's
beautiful!!!
