I am new to this system and hope somebody will be able to help me. I have
2 cracked vertebrae in my back due to a drunk driver hitting me from the
rear, I did have a seat belt on. I have been given lots of pain killers
and have seen a chiro. but nothing seems to help, I'm told to live with
it. If anyone can help with the pain please drop me a line.

           Thanks,
              Michaelle Kolsun-Miller

There are some Pain Management Specialists here in the Orlando area that
might be able to help your situation. I would suggest looking in the
phone book under Clinics.

Michaelle tell me a bit more about this pain, first no body and I
mean no body that has any type of real pain should suffer meaning
in your case, live with it thats alot of bullshit I had been told
the same thing among a few others like oh it's all in your
head...........well I started to fight back and I agree with the
fact that it's in your head no matter where this pain really is it
end up in a pain control center inside the brain this is where most
pain meds go to relieve the pain....What I wanna know from your
history is what kind of pain killers and how much for how long did
you get them and take them OK send this info I am sure I can help
you I am not any sort of M.D but I do know a few things and what I
do know I do know what I am talking about,,,also the pain could you
please try describing it to the best of your ability.

The pain that I had was like a hot metal poker being put into me and
being twisted around then a throbbing pain that was constant. The doctors
put me on darvoset,percoset,codine,motrin,tylenol 3 with codine,and
something else but i can't remember. I was on all of them for about 4
months give or take a week. But now I try not to take anything unless
it's really bad, like when I try to play with my dogs or stand for too
long. The doctors told me that if I were to just ingore the pain that it
would go away, I tried that but it never seemed to work for to long. I
also went to a Bio-Feed Back class 3-6 times a week that lasted at least
2-4 hours a time. In that class it helped me to deal with the pain when
it was time to go to sleep but that was the only time. Once in a while it
would work when I was at work and I could get in a quiet place to pratice
but it wasn't that often that I could do it. ****** Sorry that it took me
so long to call back and reply but I would try every night a couple times
and it was always busy the call is a toll call for me so I could only try
certain times. Thank you for taking the time to reply to my
message.******* To get back to the pain the worst time for me is the
winter closely followed by the fall because that's when it's the worst.
Now with the pain in my leg I have 2 major pains to deal with. In June of
90 I had 7 pins and 2 plates put in my leg after I crushed it, If you
have any insight to help with the pain on either place it would much be
apperciated. Again I'm very, very sorry about not getting back sooner, but
now I'm able to call a little more frequent from work, so hopefully I'll
be able to talk to you more. I live in New Jersey so that way you know
what type of weather I have to deal with, down by Atlantic City. The
shore weather is rather fierce. Thank you and again I'm sorry about the
delay. Hope to talk to you soon.

One other good idea is to do as many "bent knee" situps as you can
3 days a week. For the past year, I have been working out with free
weights for strength and muscle size. Part of my routine has been to
do the situps. When I started out, I would do about 20. Now, I do about
23 situps holding two bar bell plates totally 35 pounds behind my head.
You will be amazed how over time, your back will get a strange tight
feeling about it, and much if not all of your pain will disappear.
It takes time, hardwork, dedication etc., to strengthen any muscle
especially those of the lower back. Believe me, the method I describe
works well. I did not start out however, holding any weight at all
behind my head when doing the situps. This exercise also decreases
the dimensions of your waist and stops "potbellys" often found
on men.

Yes, it will definitely help to at least lower your weight. I started
working out with weights last year at the age of 43. At first, I thought
I'd probably get a heart attack. I must admit when I started to do deep
knee bends with a barbell on my shoulders, with about 50 lbs, it took
my breath away after about 10 repetions. My cardiovascular shape must
have improved, because I now do two sets of 15 repetions with the last
set weighing 170 lbs. It seems very easy to me now. My goal is to work
up to 15 reps, at 200 lbs. You will be surprised how you leg size will
increase. I generally work out at home 3 days a week for about one
hour. I do the situps, biceps curls, military press, calve raises, leg
extensions and curls and bench presses. All of these combine to make
a significant difference in how you feel and your overall strength.
It's the consistency of the routine that makes the difference. If you
can stick with an exercise program, you will be surprised how it affects
every thing physical that you do. Even yard work becomes a simple thing
the better fit you are. You don't get tired. The deep knee bends enable
you to climb stairs over many building flights that at one time would
have been exhausting. A year ago, if I could do 10 pushups, I was
doing good. I can now do at least 35 fairly easily. My goal is at
least 50. If you get into this type of training, start slow with low
weight and keep records and add weight very slowly as your body adjusts.
As you work out, you will also notice that your overall muscle size
increases slowly but surely. I have made a small investment in weights
and a bench with a leg extension device attached in order to accomplish
what I have related to you. I really feel that free weight lifting
is a tremendous way to get into great shape.
