[misc.handicap] Outdoor Recreational Opportunities

SPDISNET@SENECA.BITNET (Disability Network) (04/10/91)

Index Number: 14653

The"Disability Network", a CBC television program produced by people
with disabilities, is going to produce a 30 minute documentary special
on outdoor recreational opportunities for disabled persons. For
example, there is a wilderness area on the Canadian side of Lake
Ontario where people with disabilities can go on cross country trips
in all-terrain vehicles or fish from boats equipped to carry
wheelchairs. We are anxious to track down other such places
throughout Canada and the United States .. and beyond.

If you have any information that may help us please contact us. We
will be monitoring the Handicapped Digest but to make sure we don't
miss anything, we request that you also respond to us at our Bitnet
address below.

Ever seen Sledge Hockey??? Now there's a brutal sport for the
winter!!! There is a team in Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto and
Montreal. It is played by disabled person who sit in a sled with
ice skate type blade on the bottom. The sledges are propelled by
the player using sawed off hockey sticks with metal picks in them
to dig into the ice surface. The game itself is played very much
like the regular game except for the sledges. If you would like to
talk to somebody, you can contact Mr. Bill Schell in Kingston at
(613) 542-8353.

Hope this helps. BTW They go after the puck like it was dead bait.

Bill
