Hi,

Here is a question for my sister and brother Dog Guide users.

Recently, Toby has started Guiding me while walking at an angle. He
does not do it all of the time, but it is annoying when he does do
it.

What happens is that we are walking along and then he shifts the
front part of his body in front of my legs at an angle, almost like
he is getting ready to block me but he is'nt and then as I walk, my
feet will bang into the backs of his front legs.

My son thinks that Toby only does it on thin sidewalks and he
thinks that Toby is just trying to keep me or perhaps even force me
away from the street. I must admit that this does seem to make
sense. Even moreso as I begin writing this to you and thinking
about it.

What do you others think about this. any thoughts?

Keepin' the faith!

Hi Henry,

Ah you sideways guy you! Unfortunately, my situation seems to be
different in that sighted people, including my son have told me
that Toby is actually holding his body at an angle to me. So, for
whatever reason, it is my mutt that is doing it.

I will let you know what it is when we figure it all out! Toby does
indulge in a few peculiarities now and then, but mostly, he is a
sweetheart and terrific guide.

Keepin' the faith!

Hi,

Well, I had been thinking about calling the school actually. The
thing is, I thought that I would first try to solve the mystery
myself or with a little help. The school does encourage to do such,
although, they tell us they are there for us when we do need them
and they are pretty good about such things.

I think Toby is doing is in fact doing to keep me from walking to
close to the curb on narrow sidewalks. There is a particular area
where he does his sideways thing and so I am suspicious.

I will let you know when I find out for sure.

Keepin' the faith!
