Index Number: 15432 [This is from the Spinal Injury Conference] We held the doors until 3:00 pm while police tried several intimidation tactics including marching in formation, and standing at attention staring down protesters, and wearing bullet proof vests. Around 2:30 the police moved in and cleared a few doors so Social Security staff who were milling around in the parking lot after coming back from lunch were able to go in and some could start to leave. The police had to hold back protesters so SS staff could come out. Some staff were supportive and the Union representatives came to lend support. At 3:00 ADAPT pulled off the SS building. No one had been arrested. We moved down to Security Blvd. (a six lane divided street) and took over a major intersection for four hours. All traffic was blocked up to Interstate 70. Police rerouted traffic and ADAPT continued chanting "we want Sullivan" "up with attendant services down with nursing homes" until 6:30 when we marched back to our motel (which is just up Security Blvd.) -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!382!4.0!Bill.Scarborough Internet: Bill.Scarborough@p0.f4.n382.z1.fidonet.org
