I have a 14 year old autistic non-verbal son. He has shown some degree
of success using a comminications book with pictures/icons on its pages.
The speech and language therapists at his school will try using an
electronic device (Alltalk from Adaptive Communications Systems) for
evaluations on arental basis. If the trial is successful, I would like
to get a unit for my son. Does anyone have any knowledge on either
Dynavox or DAC form ACS? The Alltalk is now discontinued, and the other
units are not available for rental yet. Our case will be the first one
for CHP, our health insurance company, which is an HMO. I was told that
they cover prosthetic devices if Medicare covers them. Is there anyone
out there, who knows details of a case where an adaptive communications
device is covered by Medicare?

Any information about the devices and funding is appreciated.
