Index Number: 15614 [This is from the Chronic Pain Conference] This is the first time I've used this message base and would like to know if I'm in the right place. I see alot of messages posted on physical pain based on a defined physical problem causing pain. I understand chronic pain however, the chronic pain I have is based on a disorder Known as a Somatiform disorder.Emotional responses to the enviorment as I experience it that somatize themselves into physical pain. Chronic stomach pains and throat spasams, chest pains, PVC's of the heart, sore scalp, presure in the face, constant anxiety that causes acute muscle pains in the neck, shoulders, legs. The adrenaline fight or flight response is on almost all the time. This is a real problem. Panic attacks, agraphobia, depression and unconsious gripping fears that occur without a reason. The pain is real phyiscally, but based on emotional repression. It's severe enough so that it has disabled me and it's been going on now for five years. The bottom line for me here is first, can anybody relate to what I've just said and is support for this kind of chronic pain available on this base. I don't want to take up alot of time talking about pain problems as much as I would like to talk about disfunctional families, adult children of alcholics, anxiety or panic disorders, depression, etc. all the emotionally based physical pain problems and how to deal and cope without drugs. Mainly just talking about it and knowing I'm not alone with this situation. Any and all comments are welcome. Chronic pain is chronic pain whether it originates emotionally or physically. I would bet someday a correlation between the two will be evident and treated successfully that way. sincerely, "Are I in the right place?" -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!290!2!Clint.Clark Internet: Clint.Clark@f2.n290.z1.fidonet.org
