[This is from the Blink Talk Conference]

Ok, I promised you all my description of the Portable Plus, and
here it is. The machine is a lot smaller than the talking book
machines used by the library. I won't bother describing the exact
size, because you can get that from the catalogue. I can say that
the turntable will exactly fit a flexible disk, and while playing
one of these, it is possible to shut the lid of the player. When
the lid is opened, the speaker is facing away from the user, the
only flaw I can see in the design. The machine has veriable speed
and speech compression, a pause switch that really works and an
index button wich speeds up the record so that the index tones can
be heard. The machine is extremly light weight, so it can be
carryed easily. It can also be played for up to ten hours on its
Nicad rechargable battery, and it is recommened that you use the
batteery and not leave the machine plugged when not charging. I
will explain the arm in a later message.

                                  Tim
