am sysop of the PET PLACE in Miami, Fla...I have a friend who is
paraplegic...she has pressure sores and diabetes and cannot get out
of bed by herself...nurses and aides have been coming in to help
her and she has been doing really well..even volunteering at a
local hospital and thinkinga bout going back to school.....now
Medicare says that she is chronic and they are going to cut off her
nurses and aides..she has no family and without help she will not
be able to get out of bed herself and will just lay there in her
own filth and die...she exists on disability which doesn't pay all
her expenses now so she can't hire the care she needs...they say
that her only alternative is to go to a nursing home. She has been
in them briefly after hospital stays and cannot see spending the
rest of her life (she's only 43) in a place like that..warehoused
with no dignity or anything else...she says that if that is the
only alternative after fighting all these years to maintain a
certain quality of life she will end it all...does anyone know of
anyone or organizations or anyone to contact that might be able to
give her some help?
