Index Number: 15722 BK> I'm wondering if you or anyone else reading this has any thoughts on BK> whether or not blind people should train other blind folks in cane BK> usage. I am definitely a proponant of this. Sure there are risks, but BK> when you see what the history of sighted parapetologists is, surely the BK> blind can do at least that well. I can think of very few situations anywhere in life where someone who doesn't have a particular skill would do a better job of teaching it than someone who uses that skill every day. For example, at our most highly regarded media school here in Chicago (Columbia College), all the faculty members work in the field they're teaching. If someone is taking a class in TV directing, the instructor is going to be someone who regularly directs TV shows for one of the major network stations here. I don't see why the teaching of adaptive skills should be any different. "Those who do, do; those who can't, teach" is rapidly disappearing. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!115!778.1!Eric.Bohlman Internet: Eric.Bohlman@p1.f778.n115.z1.fidonet.org
