Some 12 months ago I started a Group, named..
Disabled Data Link Group..
What is this, I hear you ask..
The original Idea was, that Disabled People, running Data
Services (BBS's), linked their ideas and support together, so
providing much needed help to others, in similar situations to
themselves..
Well, my friends Disabled Data Link Group, is still going, we,
as a Group have services, installed by myself, in the UK, others
affliated, that we have encouraged to participate..
We have services in the Homes of Disabled People..
We also have Services in Colleges and Schools, in the UK,
operated remotely, usually by myself... So providing Disabled
callers a more localised call access facility..
We already have quite a few applications in hand, mainly from
colleges in the UK, but we have services linked, using the
superb technology of Fidonet, in Greece..
Support has been good, by way of volintary help..
I would really like to hear from any Disabled Person, who
already runs a Data Service, who would care to join the Group,
or Disabled People who would care to Start a service, using
existing Fidonet compatible Software..
Colleges, Schools, or any educationally minded institution,
would also be welcome..
Our aims are to provide collective help to callers of our
services, using our own experiences and Skills, also to promote
all aspects of Distance Learning to those who would not normally
be able to attend a College or University..
At the moment, we have no funding, but hopfully this will change
in the future, if you, or if you know of anyone, who may be
interested in providing financial support, even equipment,
please let us know..
To myself and others within our Group, providing easy to use,
computer independant Data Services and Voice lines, is an
important and neglected (In most Countries) area of Disability
support.. What is even more important, is the fact that Disabled
People themselves, working with and advising Able Bodied people,
are helping themselves and others, in similar situations to
their own..
