HEX recently received a letter from Arkenstone Inc., a non-profit which
deals in technology to aid the visually impaired. The following comes
verbatim from that letter:

***Quote:

Arkenstone Inc. has just received a very generous $250,000 donation of
scanning equipment from Panasonic. We need help to find the best
possible homes for these scanners. If your organization is interested in
having a reading system for people with vision or reading impairments,
please read on!

...

Panasonic and Arkenstone have put together the "Panasonic Scanner
Donation Program" described in the attached material. We are seeking
nonprofit agencies that will be able to use these scanners as part of an
Arkenstone reading system to effectively benefit the most people
possible. ... If you have a significant number of clients who could
benefit from access to a reading machine or if you have an active braille
publication program, please contact us. We look forward to receiving an
application for the donation of a scanner to your organization.

Sincerely,

(signed)
James R. Fruchterman
Presidant

Please *DON'T* contact the HEX; I don't know any more about it than you do!

Also, please note that the HEX now has a new net address, which is:
   Internet/domain format: media!ka3ovk!rbarth@uunet.uu.net
   UUCP format: uunet!media!ka3ovk!rbarth

Mail to my previous address at UMD may be forwarded for a while. It may
also wind up in the bit bucket, so please change your address books or
alias files.
