Index Number: 16068 [This is from the Silent Talk Conference] Ann, you think it is sad that a lot of ASL Deafies snub oral deaf people. I agree, it is sad. It is just as sad that alot of oral deaf people snub ASL Deafies. Indeed, certain organizations comprised of oral deaf people have their history in snubbing. They were founded for the expressed purpose of (this from a chapter in their charter) eliminating association with non-speaking totally deaf persons to faciliate integration into hearing society. When you look atthe Audism attitude of many oral deaf people historically, little wonder where ASL Deafies learned it from or feel they ought to give as good as they got. Nonetheless, as you say it is sad. But the dung heap belongs in more than just the ASL Deafies backyard. -- Uucp: ..!{decvax,oliveb}!bunker!hcap!hnews!300!14!James.Womack Internet: James.Womack@f14.n300.z1.fidonet.org
