Kurt Cylke Interview Continued... Part 3
6. According to a BRS official, pricing for the blnd database is up to NLS
and with blind unemployment so high, how can NLS justify charging blind
patrons such high rates for access?
Mr. Cylke denied NLS sets the prices and stated that BRS sets the rates.
He also went on to say that NLS recieves "no" monies from the BRS account.
He said that NLS uses several database management companies.
7. Will blind patrons be allowed to duplicate, distribute and upload
materials from the cd rom disk to other blind persons?
Mr. Cylke answered this question with an affermative and agreed that these
materials would not be copyrighted.
Thus ends the interview and I must say, I found Mr. Cylke to be very
friendly and we had a plesant discussion. The BRS official of which I
refered in the interview stated to me that her reps were confusing their
price quotations over the phone to callers enquiring about blnd with
another BRS account, "BDLN", a buisness dataline service available to the
general public and so BRS says one thing, NLS says another... Whos right?
I am preparing an article for the BLINK SPOT REVIEW and in that article,
I'll try and have some more definitive answers... regards, Dan
