Greetings Nadine, for that day when you may not have the quality of
life you desire I would encourage you to have a living will so that
your desires may be known to the Family, Medical Personal and the
Courts so that if a decision should need to be made that everyone
involved in making the decision would know your desires without any
doubt.

It is unfortunate but because of financial cost in some families
there is the desire to pull the plug to save family monies that
would normally be inherited by survivors. In some situations all
the savings can be used to support a patient and leave no money
left over when death eventually takes place.

My Dad has refused medical treatment the past, insisted on being
released from the hospital. Several years ago my Dad needed major
surgery to replace a heart valve. It took a full week before I was
able to convince him to have the surgery. At times he is still
very depressed after 4 years but I would have to say that he has
been able to contribute to the needs of other family members during
that time in many very simple ways. To me the surgery was worth it
and a good chunck of what I could have inherited was used to pay
for the expenses. I do not ask for a pat on the back, I am only
stating facts. If he had his original way in this he very well
could be dead today and I would probably have already spent my
share of any inheritance. I still have my Dad and he is still
increasing the net worth of his estate. Will I get some of it? I
would prefer to wait another 20-30 years for it if the choice is
mine. Anton...
