The Columbia came back to Earth in near perfect condition after STS-5. Only two small tiles were missing, and two others were nicked. During the maximum braking test, one of the disk brakes on Columbia's main landing gears locked and the tire on that brake suffered a slow leak. It did not burst though. Meanwhile, an investigation into the spacesuit problems has been launched, and NASA hopes to have a reason for the failures of the suits within a week and recommendations on what to do about them in two weeks. For the next three weeks, Brand, Overmyer, Allen, and Lenoir will undergo the intensive post-flight debriefings now common after shuttle flights.
