I am looking for Artic 3.03 config files! I want to make my bbs
Blink Connection 415-276-4121 available for Artic users to
exchange config files. I will have the following config files
available for download!

pcp20cfg.zip Artic 3.03 config file for Procomm Plus 2.0
xtg_cfg.zip Artic 3.03 config file for xtreepro gold
qm42_cfg.zip Artic 3.03 config file for qmodem 4.2f

P.S. I don't know if my first message made it on the echo! The two
bbs's in this area have not been getting the Blink Talk messages
over the last 2 weeks!

Russ

It seems there are a number of things that Artic didn't check out and
why on earth they released that software when it really wasn't ready is
something I don't understand. I have been told that the new software
will be out in may. That's nice, but the trouble is I doubt Artic
tested it much better then they have what they already have out there.
I find it troubling that Artic seems to seek out really unqualified
people to get opinions from. Have you contacted them to let them know
about this problem? Well, if you haven't, I am not so sure that it will
do much good. They just are not very responsive to the consumer. I
thought what consumers think is important, but there goes Artic not
caring, and making money doing it. The question I have is how long do
you think they can continue to keep doing this? There are a lot of
good programs out there so while they may have been the main one for a
while, things are changing. It is too bad that when we cannot be helped
by them, we can't get our money back so we can get something that will
work.

HI MARY. THERE IS A CONTINUAL READING FEATURE IN ARTIC 3.03 CALLED
DOCUPILOT. IT IS INVOKED BY ALT-D. ANY DOCUMENT WILL BE READ FROM THE
CURRENT CURSOR POSITION TO THE END OF THE DOCUMENT. STRIKING THE ALT KEY
WILL STOP READING AND LEAVE THE CURSOR ON THE LINE IT IS CURRENTLY ON. A
TEXT EDITOR SUCH AS QEDIT IS ALSO USEFUL FOR SEARCHING FOR STRINGS OF TEXT.
THIS COMBINATION IS BEEN GREAT FOR ME, ESPECIALLY IN READING LENGTHY
TEXTFILES. I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT QMODEM. THE HTYPE COMMAND IS
CERTAINLY NOT ADEQUATE FOR READING LENGTHY TEXTFILES. YOU CAN FIND
ADDITIONAL COMMANDS FOR USING DOCUPILOT IN CHAPTER 14 OF ARTIC'S USER
MANUAL. GOOD LUCK, I HOPE THIS HELPS.

Hi Grant. You know, when artic first started, before they ame up with
that stupid locking scheme of theirs, they used to put the licensee's
name and the serial number on the opening screen. Iguess they thought
that wasn't good enough. Idon't know how much money they; lost because
they did that, if loss of money really made them go to the lock system,
but if its all that big a problem, why hasn't Doug had to do wi it with
vocalize, or why hasn't Jaws gone that way? Ithink they lost more good
will than they gained money.

I suspect that that their decision to tie their program to a
particular speech board was made as a finantial one. Once they
finally see it is not to their gain to sell their programs that
way they will stop I'd think. However if people keep buying
their systems and supporting that kind of thing, well it will
continue as always. Grant

My impresion of Artic is that they sort of put a program out
there, made it the free upgrade, andleft it to the consumers to
find the buggs and then when the buggs are brought to their
attention act as though it is the consumers problem. Grant

Yes but have you tried to run Flipper on the Artic with sonix II? I
don't have it, but it sounds absolutely disgusting.

LK> HI MARY, THANKS FOR YOUR SUGGESTION. THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING WITH TELIX IS
LK> THAT I'M HEARING ADDITIONAL SPEECH WHEN I USE THE ARROWS TO SCROLL THE
LK> DIALING DIRECTORY. PERHAPS I SHOULD TRY THE TAB KEY INSTEAD.

Les, I don't know how to tell you to handle the dialing directory
for telix with artic, but this the way I handle it with jaws, and
maybe you can figure in artic how to do the same thing.

First, you configure telix to write to the screen, and not to the
bios. Then what I have done, was to create a macro with the
alt-down arrow key to first go down one line, then search for the
reverse video, and say that line. This works fine for me, and
gives me one line at a time, and that line is the one I land on.
For those who don't like macros, there is one good reason to have
them.

               Walter

Hi Les. The tab key works when you are editing an entry, not for
scrolling through the directory. AT least, that is my understanding, and
that is only true with telix 3.15 not with 3.12 . When I scroll through
my entries with the down or up arrow, all I hear is dial marked or
highlite if unmarked, and I have to use alt slash to readthe currently
highlited entry. I have gotten so used to my telix directory, it has 20
some numbers in it, that Iknow the number of all the boards Icall very
often, so can just use the alt d followed by the number of the bbs Iwant
and a return, and the modem dials. What speech are you hearing when you
scroll with the arrows besides what Iam hearing?

HI MARY. THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTION OF USING THE ALT-SLASH COMBINATION TO
READ THE DIALING DIRECTORY. IT WORKS WELL. WHAT I WAS REFERRING TO RELATES
TO A CONFIGURATION THAT I SET UP TO READ THE ENTRIES. ESSENTIALLY, I
DEFINED WINDOW 1 TO READ LINES 3-17 TO COINCIDE WITH THE DIALING DIRECTORY
ENTRIES. I CHOSE FOREGROUND AND BACKGROUND COLORS OF BLACK AND WHITE
RESPECTIVELY, AND THEN TURNED ON BAR TRACK MODE. USING THE UP AND DOWN
ARROWS WILL READ THE HIGHLIGHTED ENTRY; THE EXTRA SPEECH RELATES TO THE
PREVIOUS NUMBERED ENTRY BEING READ AS WELL. YOU'RE RIGHT, AFTER A WHILE I
WILL ALSO KNOW ALL OF THE ENTRIES AND CAN USE THE METHOD YOU DESCRIBED. I
JUST STARTED USING TELIX; I HAD BEEN USING PROCOMM PLUS, BUT DECIDED TO TRY
TELIX AS IT APPEARS TO BE MORE FRIENDLY WITH SPEECH PACKAGES. REGARDS, LES.
