Index Number: 16378 I am currently in the process of selecting a guide dog school for myself. Up to now I have been a white cane user. Not only will this be my first guide dog, but also my first dog! There are two schools I am talking to right now. One is Seeing Eye of Morristown, NJ. The other is Guiding Eyes of Yorktown Heights, NY. I've already met an interviewer from Seeing Eye and gone on the Juno walk with him. From our discussion I've learned that if I go to Seeing Eye I'll be part of a six person training group for about a month. Guiding Eyes works aproximately the same way. I've talked to a graduate from Guiding Eyes who is (not surprisingly) very enthusiastic about them. And I've seen many rave reviews right here on misc.handicap for Seeing Eye. All this is well and good. HOWEVER. I am multiply handicapped with a profound hearing loss as well as being legally blind. I would be very interested in anyones personal experiences with how these two schools train and interact with severely hard of hearing or deaf students. Thanks very much. -- Rudy Vener uucp: att!mtqua!rudy internet: rudy@mtqua.att.com
