I am interested in locating a system or equipment that delivers actual
Voice to Text capability.
For those who may be interested, two limited systems that are
designed to provide only Voice command capability have been located.

The product that I use both at work and at home is the DragonDictate
30K speech recognition system. It allows a user to enter text into a
computer in a totally hands free environment. It has a price tag of
$9,000 and requires a 386 machine but I'm able to do just about
anything with my voice that someone with their hands would do. Best
of luck in your search.
Frank.

The new Dragon Systems release of the Voice Type at the present time
has a voice print for 5,000 words and is capable of training up
another 2,000 models with each model being able to produce up to 1,000
keystrokes. On the down side is that at present it will only run on a
true blue IBM P/2 with 6 megabytes of RAM. The price that was quoted
is only for the software so you need to buy a card that list for $390
in addition to the software. Also at the present time, it cannot be
sold outside of the United States. It also will not be available
until the end of August. However by that time it might be able to
run on other IBM clones that have the micro channel architecture. If
you or anyone else would like more information you may leave a
message at (301)-725-2169 and I will get back to you. I hope that
this little blurb of information has helped you.

Dragon Systems makes a less expensive system for speech
recognition than the DragonDictate. It costs less than $1000.00.
But I don't recommend it. As part of an Internship I was asked to
set it up. It gave us a lot of problems and had a very limited
vocabulary.

Yes, it is quite a lot of money but as I said before I've never
regretted it.

The large vocabulary with continuous speech is probably several years
away. One of the reasons is that even with the increased speed of
today's CPU it is still not fast enough to process the large amounts
of data that would be needed. I have been using their system for
almost 3 years and I have seen many improvements some of which were of
my suggestion. I have been to quite a few of the trade shows and I
haven't seen anything that can touch it as far as performance is
concerned. Furthermore they are very receptive to user ideas. If you
want to talk to me you can write to me at the address below or call at
the listed phone number.
