My name is Gordon Gillesby and I'm the Director of Information Resources at
United Handicapped Federation, St. Paul, Minnesota. I'm in the process of
researching the different BBS' for people with disabilities and I have three
different goals in mind.

   1) - About a year ago, Jack Rickard of Boardwatch Magazine (a publication
devoted to online BBSing) asked me to undertake this project in order to write
some articles telling his readership about those boards and the people who use
them. After some personal delays, I finally have the equipment, time and
(temporarily) the health necessary to begin this task.

   2) - United Handicapped Federation (currently being reorganized) a non-
profit advocacy organization of, by and for people with disabilities and
representing over 60 member organizations and over 5000 individuals, would like
to maintain a list of functioning BBS' which - in some way - service the
population of people with disabilities along with their significant others and
other non-profit service organizations in order to publish that information
periodically in newsletters.

   3) - We (UHF) are in the process of starting a non-profit BBS for people
with disabilities with a specific slant on providing databases with information
useful to that audience (service organizations, vendors, catalog information
for mailorder shopping, information about various public issues; along with the
usual BBS functions. Our board has no name, as yet (in part because UHF is
reorganizing); our goal is to have a proto-type version available by the end of
the summer 1991. But we're handicapped people - we work a little slower than
many might expect; we HOPE to be fully operational by the end of the year. In
the meantime, I've been asked to take some online tours to see what kinds of
services are already benefiting PWDs.

If you think of any information that may be useful to the goals specified
above, please drop me a line. I work out of my home: 2627 - 167th Lane NW,
Andover, MN 55304-2068; (612) 753-1577. The best time to call is between 9am
and 6pm most days.
