I didn't get a chance to call Peter on the weekend. I spoke with him
last winter about magherc. I found it was a good programme but like
other programmes it has a little bug. In the documentation he says it
hangs some systems and sure enough it does. He suggests tapping the
cntrl, alt, lshft, and rshft keys to free thhe system however no luck
for this cosmic cowboy.
Part of the reason for our chat was so he could establish exactly what
was happening when the system would hang. Most of the problems have
been with wordperfect, however it occurs in procomm as well. Since most
of my work is done in WordPerfect, the programme doesn't fit my needs as
well as I would like it. Interestingly enough, when I was testing the
programme, the system never hung using dos. You could go so far as to
use edlin on large text files and no problem. I've tried loading the
programme both before and after WordPerfect and I haven't had much
success. During my conversation with Peter, I suggested that if he
could eliminate this hanging problem his text magnification programme
would be one of the best I've seen on the market.
If there are any large print users out there using lyon, vista, or zoom
text there going to be upset at that remark, but hey, that's my opinion.
The only product that I've seen to date that beats magherc in
resolution is produced from Syntha-Voice called Panorama. I am
currently using their voice package called slimware but I'm not very
happy with it. It has some glitches that have yet to be resolved and my
they tend to be very defensive about their software. I tend to be fair.
Their large print is excellent, There voice, well, like magherc if the
bugs are ironed out I'll give it 100% backing. Until then, I can only
say it doesn't work properly.
Maybe I'm too critical about software but what good is air conditioning
in the vehicle if the car won't start?
But I give Peter alot of credit. And I will contact him. He's a very
pleasant person and does show alot of initiative and caring. I look
forward to magherc v1.00+.
Take Care,
J
