Bill,

I own version 2.14 of the Accent version of JAWS and have been following
your conversation with Walter Siren about the silent apostrophe. I just
finished some experimenting and here is what I have determined.

In the Jaws main menu, Voice, Universal, Symbols menu you have five
choices. If you turn on "ALL" symbols then the apostrophe will be
spoken. Any other choice will keep the apostrophe silent.

If you want the apostrophe to be spoken at all times regardless of the
Symbols menu setting, then put it in your Jaws dictionary file. The
following line will work for you.

 /'/apostrophe/

Something strange happened when I was trying this which makes me think
that the 2.14 version has something new that I was not aware of. Once I
edit the jaws.jdf file and exit back to DOS, the changes are automatic.
I do not have to load the Jaws dictionary file manually. I guess Jaws
is watching to see if it's dictionary file gets changed and loads it in
without user intervention. Very interesting!

        Jim

P.S. I am still working on the dictionary program for the Accent. Film at 11.
