will walter and grant from one camp and maybe david or darrell or
someone from the other camp state publically that the you do not have
to be a member of either group to attend the conventions. they are
public affairs. accept some of the exective meetings which should be
closed but most of the forums I mean seminars and of course the
exhibits are open to anyone and everyone blinks winks amputees or
what ever? I ask this because I got a message from someone on
another network stating he/she would like to meet wonderful huggable
me but was not a member and figured he/she would be barred from the
convention. my friends here know I am not a member of either group
and do not plan to be now or ever but I go where my friends are
likely to show up for the fellowship and the exhibits. thanks in
advance

Well, Tandy, I can't say about the NFB, but people do attend the
ACB convention that are not members as you well know since you are
not a member and attended. I have never heard anyone say that you
need to be a member to attend. You are suppose to have to register
to get a nametag to go into the eshibits, but have I have never
seen it inforced. This is only done for security reasons, because
some exhibitors have been stolen from.

Tandy, one can go to either ACB or NFB convention and not be a member. One
can register, pay for banquet ticket, and go to meetings. Now, I don't know
what meetings are closed at the ACB convention, but I think the only one
everybody doesn't attend at the NFB comvention is the Nominating Committee
meeting--folks--think two of them--from every state go to that. Our Exectuive
Board Meeting is open and business meetings throughout the convention are
open, and of course, everybody can go to exhibits, tours, parties, committe
meetings, can hear speakers at convention, you know--all that. Does this help
some? Hope so. I hope that David and others will jump in and clarify or add
stuff. I know that you are looking at the clearest clarification you can get.
 Take care.

Tandy, This has probably been covered, but just in case, I will say again. The
NFB convention in New Orleans is opened to everyone. The only meeting which is
closed is the meeting of the Nominations Committee. Everything is opened.
Registration is $5 and proof of registration will have to be shown at the time
of checkout to qualify for the inexpensive hotel rates, which start at $28 per
day for a single room.
The pre-convention stuff starts on Sunday the 30th of June. There is a Braille
'nm Speak seminar Sunday morning, and Job opportunities for the Blind seminar in
after noon. There is also a meeting for parents of blind children that day.
Registration and exhibits open on Monday and there are a variety of meetings
that day.
Tuesday morning there is a board meeting, which is opened, and many divisions
and groups meet that afternoon.
The convention starts on Wednesday.
Thursday afternoon is free for tours etc.
The banquet is Friday night and the convention closes at 5:00 p.M. on Saturday.
That is about it.
We have booked over 1550 rooms so far so expect well over 3000 people.
