[This is from the Blink Talk Conference]

Hi,
Yes, I have another train experience to tell you all about.
But, I must warn you, it's a little more ordinary, and
less adventursum.
I am now taking a commuter rail train from a suburb into
Boston at least four days a week to go to work.
There is a particular train conductor who constantly
asks me not to pay for my ride on the train.
His main arguments have been that I am entitled to a discount, and
that he has worked for the transportation company for thirty
years, and he has to still pay for his transportation services from
them. Incidentally, I think this latter
arguement supports my feeling that I should pay.
Anyway, each day he tells me I shouldn't pay.
Well, today my mother brought me to the train station.
We were saying good-bye, and he came up to us, and
said to my mother, something like, is her your
boy. She said yes he is my boy, and he
told her something like, tell him he is entitled
to ride for free. Incidentally, mo mother is
a proponent of the free transportation for me,
but I'm not sure what her position is in general, say if
one were making a full sallary.
Anyway, she told the conductor that she has told me that I should ride
for free, and that I was stuburn, which
is true to an extent. I then told the conductor that
he wasn't going to convicne me to pay by making
small comments, and that to convince somebody you must
talk with them for hours, and even that probably wouldn't
work. Then, he said fine, and walked away.
Then, on the train, as I held out my ticket to
him, which he punches to indicate its use, he said
"no!" he also at some point in our
threesum conversation had sent that it makes him feel bad to punch
my ticket each day. When he said "no!" I
told him that it would make me feel bad if he
didn't punch my ticket. He then punched my
ticket.
As I have mentioned, I have developed a flyer for this purpose,
educating the public, which I have to split up
in two files to post here becaus e of message
limites.
I play to give this man the flyer, as well as
a more extensive letter.
Sorry for the somewhat disorganized presentation
of the story.
-Mika
