It seems like every other inquiry generates at least one response which suggests that the person with the problem "read the manual". Of course, this begs the question, "Which manual?" Looking through the NCR publications catalog, there seems to be a veritable plethora of manuals, most of which are rather poorly described. (So what else is new?) There are also a large number of other manuals on Unix, as well as books. I would like to suggest that users submit to the newsgroup their suggestions for what constitutes a 'basic' set of manuals. (My Tower/450 came with just the Owner's manual and the 4 Guides, and my NCR rep didn't offer any suggestions as to other manuals that would be useful/necessary. This is a rather drastic switch from the ITX world, where the 'basic' set of manuals is fairly inclusive, and the reps are anxious to make sure you get all of the manuals you need.) Please submit your lists of manuals and books, with annotations as to which you found useful, which you found useless, etc. If response is sufficient, I will be willing to compile the suggestions into a single document and post it.
