During January, I had written: We have an NCR Tower 32/650 with NCR Unix 02.01.01. When I use the NCR System Administrator (sa) menus to do a PARTITION BACKUP to an internal 150 cartridge tape drive in the bottom tape slot, the drive light stays on . . . During February, I reported that I had installed a "Tape Drive Light Patch" provided by Diane Vandaveer in NCR Customer Support, San Diego and continued to have the same problem when doing a PARTITION BACKUP through the sa menus. Since then, Diane notified me that a Tower user at NCR Columbia duplicated the problem. They also had both an MSC and SCSI internal controllers installed and were backing up to an internal 150 mb tape drive. She said the user was going to talk to the author of the patch and see if a patch correction could be developed. No further word has been received on this development. On March 17th, I did a routine complete system PARTITION BACKUP through the sa menus. And, amazingly the tape drive light was properly turned on and off. Why? I don't know. The only change in our normal procedures is that on March 14th the computer was shut down and moved out of the computer room while new carpet was laid in the room. To do this, a COMPLETE SYSTEM SHUTDOWN was done, the power was turned off, the power cable was disconnected, and the battery backup switch was turned off. Then, 2 hours later, the Tower was hooked back up, rebooted to multi user, and the battery switch was then turned back on. Anyway, the "Tape Drive Light Patch" now seems to be working.
