The following message is forwarded from an associate of the sender: We seem to be having a speed problem in running Informix programs. Which when researched, shows that we are seemingly unable to utilize all of the 16MB of memory. We have tried adjusting the kernel by tuning and altering a number of the internal buffer values, but we have noticed no change. The Informix programs are running too slowly for our system and as this is our primary concern we'd like to optimize for informix. A system analysis report for free and swapped memory looks like: 05:10:55 freemem freeswp " 2414 144988 " 2443 144988 " 2471 144988 " 3061 144988 " 2530 144988 at their respective ten minute intervals. Problem is, it appears that the freemem listing is much lower than the available 16MB on board. Are we reading this correctly or should this be the values as listed? If we can increase the freemem to something much closer to 16MB, how do we do so using the visual administrator? Or, is there another method? Incidentally, these values are within this range in either single-user or multi-user mode. Thanks for your help. Mike Coniker
