I have a Tower XP that was given to us with no disk drive. It is no longer on maintenance. Since it uses the ST506 interface for its hard disks, in theory, I should be able to use any ST506 drive. Does anyone have any experience they could share with me? My distributor says they have used drives from sources other than NCR, but they always used the same brand and model that NCR uses. The format command apparently comes up and gives a limited list of choices for formatting. Where does it get this information? I can't find it anywhere. Is it a table that could be added to/modified? Is it only a question of matching the head and cylinder count of the Maxtor/ Hitachi drives that NCR uses? I have reviewed the 3rd party disk info that has come across the net in the time that I have been on. It all pertains to using larger disks than NCR offers. I want to go cheap(!), like a Seagate 85MB for around $650, for example. ------------------------------------------------------------- Jim Hart aubsch!jimh@mother.bates.edu Dept. of Education Phone: 207-784-6431 P.O.
